Hadspen residents on Bowdens Road were awoken about 3am by a number of gunshots. This included the sole occupant of the targeted home, who was asleep.

While physically uninjured by the ordeal, Launceston CIB Detective Sergeant Joe Riley said the resident was shaken by the events.

"The occupant was asleep at the time and obviously very scared about what happened," he said.

"Any person who is involved in a firearms incident, as this person was, would clearly be traumatised by what has occurred.

"It just reiterates that firearms in the hands of the wrong people have no place in our community."

Detective Sergeant Riley said the incident was not random. However, it is not believed the house or its occupant were the intended target.

"The person involved has been shaken up, but not injured, but they seem to have nothing to do with the incident itself," he said.

"We are looking at lines of inquiry around a premises nearby there which is known to police, whether this shooting was actually targeted to that address."

At least three shots were fired at the home, which police believe were caused by a shotgun. Several residents have already assisted police with their inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Riley said police were still seeking any information in relation to the incident.

One witness reported seeing a small car leaving the area towards Main Road, Hadspen, immediately after hearing the shots.

"There was a vehicle seen leaving the area. It's a small vehicle we believe may be a small station wagon, which drove off in a fast pace," Detective Sergeant Riley said.

"We would like information from anybody in the area at the time. Possibly a taxi seen coming and going from the Hadspen area, that wasn't related to the incident, may also have encountered this vehicle."

Detective Sergeant Riley said police had no specific suspects at this stage.
