The collision occurred between a Holden Commordore and a TasRail Locomotive about 12:50am at a level crossing in John Street, Tunbridge.
Investigations into the crash have established that the Commodore was travelling east and stopped at the crossing as the train approached, but the driver then allegedly failed to give way to the train which clipped the rear corner of the car.
