Jay Allen Charles Reed, 28, pleaded guilty to firearms, family violence, evade police including reckless driving, trespass, drug possession and breach of bail offences.

Magistrate Ken Stanton said he had hesitated to allow Reed a drug treatment order after he failed a similar order in 2017.

Reed can avoid 12 months of actual imprisonment if he sticks to the conditions of the order which include refraining from drug use and submitting to electronic monitoring. One of his offences in May was allowing the battery of his electronic device to go flat.

He also had a five month and three day jail sentence backdated to March 5, 2020 to take into account time he had already spent in custody.

Mr Stanton condemned Reed's family violence during which the victim said to him:"You are going to bash the shit out of me anyway, I just want this to stop."

"This is a heartbreaking demonstration Mr Reed of the effect of your violence on her," Mr Stanton said.

"When you break it down she was just going to accept what she knew was coming.

"In a situation of her fear and distress you pushed her to the ground, punched her to the face and head and said you were going to kill her. That is horrifying family violence Mr Reed."

The offending came despite the existence of a family violence order. "Your attitude demonstrates a continued attitude of disobedience to the law," he said.

He said that a submission by defence counsel Fran McCracken that Reed's instructions (to her) had a maturity that had not been demonstrated before persuaded him to grant the DTO.

In the evade police episode in February Reed overtook cars in the face of oncoming traffic at speeds of 100kmh on Ravenswood Rd.

Firearms offences included possession of a stolen loaded sawnoff 12 gauge shotgun.
