Captain Brady Jones and draft hope Oliver Davis will both miss with injury following the Roos' loss to Kingborough, however, leading forward Chris Nield has been named for his first game of the year.

Davis has been Clarence's most prolific ball-winner this season, averaging nearly 20 touches a game in his draft year.

The 18-year-old's absence rules out what could have been an enticing match-up with fellow 2019 Tassie Devils co-captain Jared Dakin, who has been making his own headlines as a tagger.

"They're both very strong players," Launceston coach Mitch Thorp said.

"We rate Davis really highly around the football.

"They're actually pretty similar type players and they're an example of two young guys that are back in the State League full time and they've both had enormous impacts and influence on games already."

Launceston too will be without one of its best midfielders after Tim Bristow pinged his hamstring minutes into last week's clash with North Hobart.

Michael Musicka (corkie) will be given another week and the bye to return to full fitness, allowing silky youngster Grant Holt to be recalled.

Among the emergencies are Hamish Leedham and Isaac Chugg - both named in the development league's best for the second week running - and young forward James Gillow, who is yet to play this season after a breakout 2019.

"James played 21 games last year and he's a super talented young man that got a little bit of a niggle in his ankle at the wrong time at the start of this year and he's had to play three D-League games," Thorp said.

"On the weekend he was super, he kicked three goals and laid an enormous amount of tackles so he's doing everything he can and he's not too far away."

Despite a disappointing performance last round, Clarence have shown some good signs in 2020.

The Roos annihilated Glenorchy in round three and gave North Launceston a scare in round four while unearthing key forward Noah Holmes.

AFL recruit Josh Green started to find his rhythm last week with three goals and will draw the Blues "best small defender" this week, while Ethan Jackson, who effectively switched places with Fletcher Seymour following season 2018, has flourished as vice-captain.

Thorp said the Roos were not to be taken lightly.

"Clarence at their best are a very good side," he said.

"We watched them two weeks ago against North Launceston, they pushed them all the way to the final siren and I think they got within one point with about seven minutes left, so we know that their best is very good.

"We've seen some of the bottom sides from last year, as an example North Hobart, improve very quickly.

"Clarence against North Launceston were superb and they've got some handy additions back into their side."
