Tasmania has been assured access to millions more masks and gloves as part of efforts to stockpile personal protective equipment and help handle the risk posed by COVID-19.

According to figures released by Health Minister Sarah Courtney, the amount of PPE available to protect Tasmanians increased sharply during the past three months.
"The Department of Health and Tasmanian Health Service have both worked extremely hard to secure supplies of PPE and consumables across the entire health service," Ms Courtney said.
In other news:
"I am advised the THS continues to have sufficient supplies of PPE, and pleasingly we have received significant orders of masks and gowns in the state in recent weeks."
Ms Courtney said effort to increase PPE suppliers were ongoing.
A federal Department of Health spokesman said more than 1.2 million masks, both surgical and N95, were provided to Tasmania.
"A supply of gloves was recently deployed ... the Tasmanian government has also received swabs and face protection from the National Medical Stockpile," he said.
"More than half a billion surgical masks and 166 million P2/N95 masks have been ordered and are scheduled for staggered delivery to ensure adequate supply through to December 2020."
