Bellerive Oval attracted accumulative crowds of just 15,343 and 17,783 at its last two Tests in 2015 and 2016, which both ended after less than three days' play.

International fixtures of any format have been few and far between since, leading former Cricket Tasmania chief executive Nick Cummins to say last year that the state would be unlikely to host another Test until 2023-24.

However, that all could change this summer.

Australia is set to host India in a four-Test series starting in December, with matches scheduled for Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

The latter two locations appear increasingly unlikely as Victoria and New South Wales battle rising coronavirus cases, opening the doorway for other states to be considered.

Cummins' successor Dominic Baker said Bellerive Oval operator Cricket Tasmania would be happy to help the international and domestic cricket calendar in any way needed.

"This ground will be ready to do anything - and that'll be to do anything to make sure Australian cricket gets the result it needs over this summer," Baker said.

"The state borders stuff when it comes to competing between states for content is disappearing rapidly.

"This is about getting an Australian summer of cricket in and an Australian summer of cricket doesn't just include international cricket - it includes a full season of female cricket and a full season of domestic male cricket as well.

"Whatever comes our way, I'll prepare our organisation to be ready for it.

"I think what I would say is there'll most likely be plenty of content because potentially there'll be a few venues out of action."

Cricket Australia has announced October 17 and December 3 start dates for the WBBL and BBL respectively, however, dates for all other domestic formats are yet to be locked in.

Last season's domestic fixtures were announced at the end of July ahead of a late-September start, however, this season's fixtures could still be some time away.

Baker said while states were expecting changes in light of the pandemic, he was confident all three formats would be played this season.

"I think there'll definitely be a Sheffield Shield of some description," Baker said.

"That domestic programming is all up for discussion at the moment.

"What I can tell you is the states are working together to ensure that we get the best result for cricket.

"It wouldn't be a great result for cricket to not have any red-ball cricket played at all - particularly before playing in a Test series against India.

"So I'm confident there will be one-day cricket, there'll be BBL, WBBL, WNCL and Shield cricket but what format it takes - all those things are up for discussion."

Hubs are believed to be an important part of getting a season under way.

"I think given the issues with crossing hard borders I think hubs are going to be inevitable at some point but pre-Christmas, post Christmas could be two completely different things," Baker said.

"We're going to have to plan for all types of scenarios - half crowds, quarter crowds, no crowds, playing in different places.

"But I know from having plenty of contact with our male and female cricketers that the number one priority for them is to play so we'll be playing - who knows where."
