Originally set to be a cricket-only ground in 2020, Bellerive Oval had sightscreens removed and goalposts installed last month in preparation for two North Melbourne games on August 9 and 15.

The games were later shifted to Adelaide and the Gold Coast when the Tasmania government announced it would not be reopening state borders until August 31.

The state looks increasingly unlikely to host AFL this year, meaning that the goalposts could be taken down without ever being used for a match.

However, Baker confirmed that the AFL, not the ground's operator Cricket Tasmania, would foot the bill for the re-installation of sightscreens.

He said while the window for hosting AFL games was still ajar, there would come a time when a call would need to be made.

"The AFL are facing a whole range of issues and they're issues that cricket will be facing very shortly around schedules and the like," he said.

"We're in irregular contact with the AFL but they've got bigger things to do than worry about [Bellerive Oval].

"With the borders not opening until August 31 I think the chances of it happening are probably a lot lower than they were several weeks ago when they posted a roster with [Bellerive] in it for last Sunday night, but we'll continue to work with the AFL.

"There will be a point where this ground will be converted back to cricket."
