Should all go as planned, the competition's first round will take place on October 10, one week after the start of the Cricket Tasmania Premier League.

Northern cricket fans won't have to wait any time to see Tim Coyle lead the Greater Northern Raiders for the first time, with the third-year outfit likely to begin their campaign with two home games.

Cricket North administrator David Fry said the biggest change to this year's Cricket North roster would be the return of Thursday night T20s, which were replaced by a T20 gala weekend around Christmas last year.

The competition saw clubs cover unavailabilities with TCL recruits as Launceston beat Riverside in the final for the second year running.

"We'll go back to Thursday night T20s by the look of it, but we may play those in December and January," Fry said.

"The statewide [T20] competition's been pushed back to where it used to be in March, so that gives us the opportunity to play our matches when we have the best light and the hardest wickets."

Fry said the gala weekend could well return for the 2021-22 season should circumstances allow for it.

"The gala weekend was a great idea - we've just got to be able to have time to do it," he said.

"It's a yearly prospect - we obviously take into account what the clubs want.

"It's a little bit one each way with this, but at the end of the day time has forced us to revert back to the Thursday nights given footy and soccer are running fairly late and we're trying to accommodate them the best we can."

This year's NTFA Shield competition is set to run until September 26, while the soccer season will finish a month later on October 24.

Fry said the co-operation between NTCA No.2 tenants South Launceston and Northern championship outfit Northern Rangers typified the willingness of Launceston sporting clubs to help one another out in a trying time.

"We've been able to work with our football and soccer clubs here at the NTCA and I trust that the councils and other cricket clubs have been able to do a similar thing where they are," Fry said.

"There's no football on the George Town wicket, there's juniors only on the Youngtown wicket so we're hoping that might be up and we're negotiating with council to have that available with Invermay Park again being later unfortunately.

"Westbury will be working with the council and the football club out there to try and get that up for the first week of play as well and Riverside has no football on their ground."

A roster for the new Cricket North season should be available by mid-September, with first grade and second grade again likely to be five and six-team competitions respectively.

Cricket North will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday week.
