Tasmanians looking to reskill during the coronavirus pandemic are seeking to upskill in IT and basic computing courses.

However, there has also been significant interest in the free courses available from public vocational provider TasTAFE.
The Skill Up free courses were announced by TasTAFE in June in response to the employment issues exacerbated by COVID.
A spokesperson from TasTAFE said there had been 1338 people enrolled since July 20 or the start of semester 2.

"Interest in courses has been strong across business, ICT, web technologies, community services and health," the spokesperson said.
"This is in line with many of the usual strong areas of interest."
There were 301 enrolments in the first round of the Skill Up courses and a new round of courses begins later this month, with a confirmed 204 confirmed enrolments.
For the second round of Skill Up courses there is strong interest in developing your digital skills, write job applications and IT basics.

The spokesperson said there had been strong interest in the computing basics course, which had resulted in a second course offering being offered in July.
Semester 2 courses on offer include business, ICT, built environment, web technologies, community services, design, health, tourism and hospitality, training and assessment.
There are 18, 339 people studying at TasTAFE this year.
Other Skill Up available courses include workplace maths, trade maths, basic reading, writing for work, enhance your employability skills, mental health first aid, stepping up to supervisor (hospitality) and career planning.
