"He's like Frank Lampard in his prime," Hardwicke said.
"And Rob's a Chelsea fan, so he'll like that.
"He's one of those box-to-box midfielders with a good engine to get up and back.
"He started his career as a defender so knows that aspect of the game really well and last year at Northern Rangers scored a lot of goals so is valuable at both ends of the pitch."
Sent off for receiving two yellow cards against Devonport, Gerrard ended up serving a two-match ban and can't wait to return for the trip to Olympia with City desperate to shake off the tag as the only side yet to claim a point in this season's NPL.
"It was devastating that we have not had him for a couple of weeks and no-one felt it more than Rob," added Hardwicke. "He's champing at the bit to come back."
City did their best to help English trio Gerrard, Hardwicke and captain Sam Ridgard cope with any homesickness by arranging a blizzard during training last week while the frozen ground may even have aided preparation for Warriors' artificial pitch.
A foot injury keeps Gedi Krusa out but keeper Lachy Clark returns to face an Olympia side which ended a dreadful start of three straight defeats with a 5-1 mauling of Riverside on Saturday.
Olympic host a buoyant Glenorchy side boasting three wins from four games.
With a win, draw and loss from consecutive away fixtures, Alex Gaetani's side begin a sequence of four home games against Hobart opposition stretching beyond the next cup weekend.
Gaetani will be hoping teenager Fletcher Fulton can replicate his sensational away form and Spanish import Nil Sanz extend his goal-scoring, if not disciplinary, record.
Any euphoria remaining from the 2-1 derby win at City went down the Derwent gurgler at Warrior Park.
Centre-back Ethan Olner's hamstring means he is still a couple of weeks away although the back three of Will Humphrey, Tom Prince and captain Taylor Neilson has been operating efficiently in his absence.
"I think Glenorchy are a very tough opponent," Gaetani said.
"Very strong in all areas and as close as anyone to Devonport in terms of looking to win the league. They have recruited really well."
