Nuisance phone call solution
RECENTLY my wife and I have been asked by several very good people, a little senior than ourselves, what they could do about threatening calls demanding payment fees for various goods and services.

Some have been asked for various identification numbers, bank details and so on.
A lot of people targeted by these predators have lived and are living decent and polite lives and find it difficult in handling such rude and persistent callers.
If you are one of those people and you are reading this I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and just hang up the phone. These people do not deserve any courtesy at all. And don't worry, if by chance you accidentally hang up on a true friend, family member or a legitimate business they will call you back.
They will certainly understand your actions as you can guarantee that they have been approached by these less than decent human beings. Don't be embarrassed, just hang up - it's your phone

Touchy, touchy footy players
IT certainly is not a good look or example for anyone, adults or children, to see Richmond players in the change rooms after winning a game grabbing at a player, yet to suggest it is tantamount to sexual assault or racism is going to the extreme. While it should not be condoned, it is just players mucking around, there is nothing deliberately offensive about it.
When this issue was highlighted in the media, there was a photo of an Australian women's' sporting team showing one player grabbing the bottom of another player. Nothing was said about that at the time.
There are far more important things going on in Australia and the world than to worry about players being overly playful with their mates.

Mobile phone use while driving
WE constantly hear of individuals using their mobile while driving and the consequences of doing so. Yet it is a problem so easily solved by a solution reached by mobile phone manufacturers and carmakers. They could incorporate an electronic system which disables the phone whilst the car engine is running and or in motion.
A completely doable and cheap solution.
It just takes the government of one caring nation to make it law as they did seatbelts.

Life sayings that ring true
AFTER witnessing the recent snowfalls that blanketed Launceston and the impact that phenomenon had, whilst seeing the impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the world, it reinforces two sayings I attempt to live my life by. And why I do. "Prepare for the worst, expect the best, and take what comes". And "never say never".

WHAT a pity that seven renewable hydrogen projects are forced to compete against each other (The Examiner, August 7). Funding all seven instead of funding coal and gas would be a smarter post-COVID recovery and reduce rather than increase emissions. Good luck to H2TAS. As a net-zero emitter four years in a row, Tasmania deserves success.
