When I started work at The Examiner in 1986 I asked if it ever snowed in Launceston, coming from Queensland I was not sure. The view was if it snowed it would not settle on the ground.

About 1am on Wednesday I woke and it was very quiet. Usually there is some sound from a car or the wind. I got up and looked out window and it was snowing. The road was covered in snow, all the houses were covered in snow.
I grabbed my camera and went out to start photographing this amazing event.
Obviously the day was going to be all about this wonderful natural event. I thought I would try to document as many sites to show that snow does settle on the ground in Launceston.

Launceston may not have another snow event for another 100 years, but there are now plenty of images of snow on the ground to show does settle on the ground in Launceston. You can see the images here.
