When it comes to memorable years, 2020 will be one for the history books.
As we watch the world grapple with the reality of COVID-19, here the sense of gratitude for our small island is palpable. There's never been a better time to call Tasmania home.
Tasmanians have always been fiercely proud of their homeland, and now the things that set us apart - our isolation, produce, space and pristine environment - have taken on new significance in this changing world.
Blessed with forests, mountains and beaches, this is a place where you can find just about anything you're looking for.
August heralds the last month of winter, a time when temperatures reach their most bone-chilling, but there is a beauty to this period that is seldom seen outside our borders.
Alpine areas are currently blanketed in thick snow, waterfalls are roaring with the full force of winter downpours and our many forests of native wildflowers have started erupting into their annual carpet of blooms.
Soon the birds will return, and then the gardens and parks will explode in a chorus of spring bulbs to welcome the new season.
So, enjoy this moment of winter calm: a time of warm fires and hearty meals; of road trips and steaming flasks of tea; of empty beaches and quiet walks.
This is a year we'll all remember, so let's get out there and make it a memorable one.
