Quarantine Exemption
FIRSTLY I want to say I think the Premier Peter Gutwein has done an outstanding job during this pandemic looking after Tasmania and Tasmanians best interests.

But sorry this story of the young lady from Ulverstone having to go through hotel isolation not home isolation after being in Melbourne for brain surgery after being denied an exemption on compassionate grounds is disgusting and makes me embarrassed to be a Tasmanian (The Examiner, July 24).
She was there for life saving surgery, not a holiday.
She wasn't roaming the suburbs rubbing shoulders with anybody.
How can hotel workers be exempt and this lady not allowed to go into her own home and recuperate peacefully.
Utter rubbish.

Assisted Suicide Bill
HAVING attended Mike Gaffney's public meeting at Riverside regarding his Bill to enable the introduction of state sanctioned murder/suicide, it was deeply concerning that he introduced his talk by speaking openly of his own personal belief that all people, regardless of health status, should have the right to die at the time of their own choosing.
He was also very clear that, in time, when the smoke blows over, children should be included in the list of those able to access a fatal dose of medication to end their lives.
I sincerely urge people to put their religious and pro-life discriminations aside to read the fine print, and to be a little more judicious in opening the door to this Bill. Our government's job is to protect the vulnerable and to provide high quality care.
People need hope, excellent pain and symptom relief and loving care at the end of their lives, not an injection to end it all, which may seem to be a remedy for grief for those left behind, but ultimately means final death in the absence of all hope for the victim.

Statewide Football
IT was good to see Launceston finally get a long awaited win over their cross town rival (The Examiner, July 24).
To Ronnie Geard and his fellow supporters, let me remind them once again that if Launceston wins this year's premiership it will mean that five out of six past Launceston premiership winning coaches have come from one place - that black and red mob from over the river.

A Bit Iffy
IT would have been a democratically disastrous if, if, as Alwyn Johnson asserted in (The Examiner, Friday, July 24) Tasmania's own prince, the late Lance Barnard had not refused the offer of Governor-Generalship and sided with his true blue mate Mr Whitlam in the latter months of 1975 before Sir John Kerr's dismissal of the truly loathed government.
Why? Because it would have denied the Australian voters the opportunity to go to an early election and speak in a voice the volume of a Krakatoa blowing its top.
Before the Kerr election: Fraser 61 seats, Whitlam 66. Post Kerr election: Fraser 91 - Whitlam 36.
Very many thanks, Lance, I can hear from the large majority of Australians in collective sighs..
