Scheduled for Bellerive Oval in over a fortnight, the Kangaroos' first Tasmanian clash of the year was officially scrapped on Friday as Premier Gutwein announced the state's revised border restrictions.
Tasmania will open its borders to South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia on August 7, while a decision on re-opening to Queensland, where North Melbourne are currently based in their hub, will be made on that date - leaving no choice but to cancel the Demons and Roos' Tasmanian trip.
"The decision that has been arrived at for North Melbourne and Melbourne supporters, unfortunately they won't be playing here on the ninth of August," Gutwein said.
"We will not do anything that we believe will put the health of Tasmanians at risk and so to be frank, in terms of the AFL, that is the least of my considerations.

"I would hope that AFL could be played here later in the year but that will largely be dependent on the circumstances of the states where the teams are based at the moment and whether we have travel arrangements with them."
The AFL announced its fixtures for rounds nine to 12 on Tuesday, with Bellerive Oval penciled in to host the August 9 clash and an August 15 clash versus Brisbane.
Bellerive Oval operator Cricket Tasmania, who have been conducting pre-season sessions at the venue, were accepting of Friday's decision.
"We are continuing to work on the assumption that the AFL will still fixture North Melbourne matches at Blundstone Arena, albeit on different dates," said Cricket Tasmania government relations and communications manager, Tim Lovibond.
"We have always had complete trust in the government to act on public health advice, and while this delay is far from ideal for the AFL, it is clearly in the best interests of Tasmanians.
"We look forward to North Melbourne playing here at Blundstone when border restrictions allow for it."
