Public Holiday
WITH the Launceston Show for 2020 being cancelled it would make sense to move the public holiday from October 8 to October 9.

This would create a long weekend and allow Northern residents a chance to holiday in the state.

Gravelly Beach Intersection
IN regards to the article in (The Examiner, July 14) about the Gravelly Beach/West Tamar Highway intersection it really is a dangerous piece of road especially for motorists trying to turn right to go to Exeter.
Very limited vision on the left to see traffic coming from Launceston direction and quite often they are moving along quite quickly. Turning left is a bit easier but still not good with the brow of the hill only a 100 or so metres away.
Two senior councillors travel past that intersection regularly, but I guess they don't really care because they are not turning to go to Exeter.

Poker Machines
WHY do I need to stop my only enjoyment outside of my home because someone else can't control their spending ?
No-one is holding their arms up their backs making them.
Yes I take $50 with me in my wallet with my license and leave everything else at home if you can't win on that you won't win at all that day.
So to all these people saying they don't want pokies, get a life and go and do your knitting or crocheting or build your buildings and boxes with matchsticks.

Northern Jail
I SUGGEST the signage in Westbury be changed from historical village to hysterical village .

Meander Valley Council
SUPREME Court Chief Justice Alan Blow, has found that a rate-paying party in Meander is correct, and that the servants of the ratepayer; the Meander Valley Council (MVC) who have spent a reported $250,000 plus so far on the court cases, is incorrect in matters pertaining to the use of the Meander's ex-primary school.
MVC has leased the primary school at $1 per year rent. The council voted 5:4 in favour of the lease.
The lease is with a US based religious (therefore non tax paying) group; Teen Challenge, who are affiliated with the Assemblies of God. (US).
Teen Challenge has played no active role in the Supreme Court litigation, only the council is paying scores of thousands of our dollars to defend this matter.
Teen Challenge maintain that their faith-based program can cure addictions by the power of prayer and has no need for medical or scientific inputs or qualifications.
It requires women addicts, perhaps with children, to detox for six weeks and then live in for the 12 months program.
The group does not employ non-christians but will accept client adherents from other religions, as long as they are not gay.
Justice may have been achieved, but at a very high financial cost.
