Hans van Pelt, Tourism Tasmania's director of aviation and access development, has been selected to take on the newly created role.
It comes after the airport's former general manager Paul Hodgen exited the business in April, at the height of the coronavirus crisis in Tasmania.

"I have spent the last six years working for the Tasmanian government to strengthen access and aviation capacity into the state, so to continue to play a key role to get a fabulous airport up and running again as a vital access hub in Northern Tasmania will be very rewarding," Mr van Pelt said.
Launceston Airport chief Andrew Gardiner said Mr van Pelt was "an exciting appointment for the future of [the airport]".
"[Mr van Pelt] is already very familiar with the airport's operation and many of our staff through his role ... [with] Tourism Tasmania," Mr Gardiner said.

"As COVID-19-related border restrictions ease, Hans will play a pivotal role in attracting more flights and business opportunities to Launceston Airport.
"Critically, he will work very closely with partners across Tasmania's tourism sector to help drive growth into the North of the state."
Mr van Pelt will begin in the job on August 24.
