It comes after GSB Mayor Debbie Wisby resigned this week citing a lack of support from the local government division as one of the key reasons for her decision.
She also criticised the department's handling of performance direction.

"My position has become untenable; my health and wellbeing have been severely impacted," Ms Wisby said in a statement.
"While Council had no issue with the PID, it was very disappointing that the process was managed through a ministerial media release.
"This caused unnecessary and avoidable anxiety for community, staff and elected members - it was particularly stressful for those of us who had devoted so many hours to the task."
Mr Shelton wished Ms Wisby well but stood by how the situation was handled.
"As far as Glamorgan Spring Bay goes it is absolutely fundamental from a community point of view that the council is operating as best it can and the performance improvement directions ... are about improving the performance of the local council so that it can represent its community in the best possible way," he said.
He said there was a long process involved before the performance direction was issued.
"I've had meetings individually with all councillors, I've met with the mayor on a number of occasions and I know the director has also been in conversations with the acting general manager down there," Mr Shelton said.
Mr Shelton said the performance direction will stay in place despite Ms Wisby's resignation.
