Let's get everyone to get rid of their heaters, then hoist up power prices.
All those executives will have pay rises, all the rest of us freeze.

Elect Independents
WITH the election for Rosevears only weeks away I encourage voters to elect an Independent member.
The Legislative Council can only operate effectively if controlled by Independents.
It is not a Parliament where party members should have control otherwise it will only be a rubber stamp to pass laws for the elected government in the House of Assembly and in this case the Liberal party.
Also be careful who are true Independents as one candidate was a Liberal member of the House of Assembly and defeated at the next election and then stood unsuccessfully for many elections as a Liberal candidate.
I ask can they be a true Independent or are they there just to prop up the Liberal vote hoping their preferences flow to the Liberal candidate if unsuccessful?
Please vote for a true Independent so legislation can be passed by people with an open mind. Elected party candidates will vote as their party dictates regardless of what they may think to be right.
I urge voters to put party members last on your ballot paper.
Tony Le Fevre, Bridport.
Thank You
AS a medical practitioner for the past 60 years, I was amazed to see the superb standard of care given to my wife in Ward 4D of the Launceston General Hospital.
It is something past any expectation.

Compulsory Testing
COVID-19 testing should be made compulsory to give authorities a free hand to fight the virus.
Our aim should be to eliminate COVID-19, and to do that we need to use all the weapons in our armoury.
It will be impossible to defeat COVID-19 unless we know who has been infected, and we cannot do that unless we can test everyone. People are not able to refuse a breathalyser test and are required to wear a seatbelt. Compulsory COVID testing is no different. The economic cost of COVID-19 is massive, so people should be prepared to endure a small level of inconvenience or discomfort in order to safeguard the entire community.

FIFO Workers
I CAN'T understand why workers are being imported from Victoria and thus putting us at risk of another outbreak of COVID-19. I have nothing against Victorians, but shouldn't we be putting the safety of Tasmania first and providing employment for locals.
I find the whole concept of FIFO obnoxious and a burden on both the workers and their families.
If I recall rightly, it originated because the building of purpose built towns at remote mining sites was considered a fringe benefit and taxed accordingly, thus forcing the company to use FIFO.
I am sure there would be many happy families and less psychological problems if the tax rules were changed.
