As the state's finest fought it out for criterium honours at Symmons Plains, Launceston's Nicole Frain was on a home trainer powering her way to becoming the Zwift National Road Series champion.

Having taken the series lead with her first victory two weeks ago, the 27-year-old Sydney Uni Staminade Women's Cycling Team member finished second in the final round to secure the title by 13 seconds

"It's really cool," she said of the national honour.

"I think it will make me a bit marked come the NRS but that's OK and quite motivating and nice after doing so much on Zwift to come away with that result."

Frain is now tasked with converting her virtual form into reality success as the NRS plans to resume in September ahead of road nationals in January.

"I'm riding outside at the moment so it's just about applying methods of digging deep on the road. It will be interesting to see how it plays out because it is different.

"I definitely want to focus on nationals, try and improve into the top five in the road race and see if I can move up to the time trial podium."

Based in Hobart, Frain frequently comes to Launceston in her job as a product developer for a sports supplement company.

She has various local time trials and races coming up before the NRS which is likely to be headlined by the Tour of Tasmania from December 8-12, but is all dependent on Victoria's escalating coronavirus issues.
