Acting Sergeant Weston said that about 2.45pm on Saturday Police and Tasmania Ambulance Service were advised of a crash involving an ATV and a 4WD wagon on the Sandy Cape Track south of Temma.
"A 60-year-old man riding an ATV has crested a rise on the track, where he has impacted with a 4WD travelling in the opposite direction," Acting Sergeant Weston said.
"Despite the efforts of those at the scene and the Tasmania Ambulance Service, the rider of the ATV has passed away.
"The 27 year old driver of the 4WD was conveyed to the Smithton District Hospital as a precaution and will undergo mandatory alcohol and drug testing."
The incident is currently being investigated by Western Crash Investigation Services and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
"Police wish to offer their condolences to the deceased's family at this time," the Acting Sergeant said.
