Senior Constable Tarnya Frost said a car with four occupants was travelling north down the hill into Launceston on the Midland Highway when it collided head-on with a car entering from Connaught Crescent just after 6pm.
One car collided with a pole as a result.
Senior Constable Frost said it was unclear which driver was at fault, as both drivers indicated the other had run a red light.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Investigations are ongoing into the cause and police were interviewing witnesses at the scene.
The collision resulted in a rear-end collision nearby, with minor damage caused.
The crash caused traffic delays for about an hour, including reducing the south-bound side to one lane, which has since been reopened. Two cars were towed from the scene.
An ambulance attended the scene and took several people involved to the Launceston General Hospital as a precaution, but Senior Constable Frost said it was unlikely there were serious injuries.
