A suspended Tasmania Police officer charged with manslaughter over the death of a pedestrian in January made his first appearance in the Launceston Magistrates Court on the charge on Wednesday.

Aaron Tasman Bonner, 39, did not plead to charges of one count of manslaughter, one count of causing grievous bodily harm to a second pedestrian, causing the death of another person by negligent driving and one count of cause grievous bodily harm to another person by negligent driving on January 20, 2020.
Mr Bonner appeared in court accompanied by a woman.
Magistrate Ken Stanton bailed Mr Bonner to reappear for plea on September 10 at 9.45am.

A man from the Hunter Valley, aged in his 40s, and his wife were walking along Paterson Street in the CBD about 8.30pm when a police vehicle entered the intersection with lights activated.
At the same time, a silver Mitsubishi Lancer entered the intersection and the two cars collided causing one car to strike the Hunter Valley couple.
The officer was on his way to an urgent duty call out.
At the time Tasmania Police acting Deputy Commissioner Jonathan Higgins said there was no issue with having lights, without sirens.
"There is also an exemption of the road rules for [police to enter red lights]," he said.
