The fisherman who died while crayfishing near Maria Island on Sunday contributed greatly to both the community and the fishing industry throughout his life, the local mayor says.

The body of the man in his 60s from Orford was found during a search and rescue operation after his boat was spotted drifting with no one on board about 3pm.
He had earlier set off from Triabunna, where he is widely known within the fishing community.
His identity is yet to be released while his family and the wider community come to terms with his sudden death.

Glamorgan Spring Bay mayor Debbie Wisby said the incident had left the townspeople in shock.
"The community had a huge amount of respect for the gentleman and his family," she said.
"He was a long-term resident who had contributed greatly to the fabric of the community and the fishing industry.
"The townspeople are in shock and disbelief of such a tragic loss. The fishing people are really really upset about it."
A report was being prepared for the Coroner.
