Football Tasmania president Bob Gordon said excitement for the spectacle could not be understated.

"It's one of the three biggest events in the world ... I think about 210 nations compete to try and get into the final 32," Mr Gordon said.

Players from Launceston United were particularly excited at the possibility of seeing world-class soccer at the Univiersity of Tasmania Stadium.

United player Adilat Otto said she was excited to see powerful women playing the sport they loved in her hometown.

In particular, Ms Otto was keen to see the French team in action.

"I think I would have a heart attack if France played here ... if they did I could die happy," she said.

For Launceston United centre Jade Ruffo, soccer was a sport that could bring communities together, and the World Cup represented a great opportunity to do just that.

She said she hoped to see Matilda's defender Ellie Carpenter take the field in Launceston.

"She's [Ellie Carpenter] really been an inspiration to me because ... she's sacrificed a lot to be where she is and took a big risk and it really paid off," Ms Ruffo said.

"She started playing at such a really young age it's just an inspiration to all young players that your dreams come true if you work hard for it."

Growing up with a soccer-loving father and brothers is what lead United midfielder Gonya Luate to take up the sport.

"I did know a bit about it, but I didn't play until I switched from tennis ... seeing it on TV made it look like a sport I'd enjoy," she said.

Mr Gordon work was still needed for Launceston to cement its hosting chances.

Similar to in 2003 for the Rugby World Cup match at UTAS Stadium (previously York Park), Mr Gordon said the stadium would need to adapt to a rectangular playing field.

"If we can get the infrastructure sorted out in terms of the ground configuration and a bit of investment in some other training facilities," he said.

"We need to get onto it pretty quickly too."
