Curtly James Hodge, 20, was sentenced by magistrate Ken Stanton in Launceston Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Hodge earlier pleaded guilty to stealing, fraud, drug and resist police offences which occurred in October and November last year.

Mr Stanton said while Hodge had many prior convictions, his age meant rehabilitation prospects remained the most paramount factor which needed to be considered when sentencing.

"There's no sign of significant reform yet, you've failed to engage with opportunities provided to you to date," Mr Stanton told Hodge who appeared in court via video link.

Mr Stanton said Hodge had a severely disadvantaged childhood "associated with family violence and trauma" and "drug use from an early age".

Hodge was sentenced to eight weeks and 33 days in jail, which Mr Stanton said would be served on top of the 16-month prison sentence Justice Robert Pearce handed Hodge in the Supreme Court on June 9.

The Supreme Court jail sentence, which a non-parole period of 10-months, was handed down after Hodge punched and kicked a man at Invermay in July 2019.

When sentencing Hodge, Justice Pearce outlined Hodge's life as a teenager and drug addiction.

"You have had no meaningful engagement in education since 2013 when you were in grade seven," Justice Pearce told Hodge.

"You became a heavy user of both cannabis and methylamphetamine. All of this is reflected in your record."

Justice Pearce said Hodge had rejected "many attempts" to help him engage with services to address education and drug problems.

"You seem to have little understanding how your conduct may affect others and you have, so far, not indicated any willingness to reform...unless you decide to change and accept responsibility for your behaviour you are likely to spend long periods in prison," Justice Pearce said.
