Current leader Nathan Lowe announced to the playing group a couple of weeks ago that he wouldn't be continuing on next season as work and family matters took over.
"It was really to let somebody else have a crack at it, somebody younger," Lowe said.
"You find it hard to do the recruiting each year, my role at work has changed a fair bit in the last 12 months and my young fella Ryan looks like going to North Launceston next year for the under-18s, so every second Saturday we'll be travelling to Hobart no doubt."
Admitting that the players felt a tinge of relief in finally knowing what was happening with the season when the decision was made, Lowe believes calling off the season was certainly the right choice.
"Especially what's happened in Victoria, I think the NTFA has made the right decision and there's some people that aren't happy about it but that's life and there's more to life than football and people's livelihoods are at stake.

"I think Victoria has really proved that in the last couple of weeks, so I support whatever the NTFA did and I think it's the right call and everybody will come back bigger and better next year, nice and refreshed and keen to get back out on the park."
With three-time North Launceston premiership player Karlton Wadley joining the Sharks' books this season, a move back to the Bombers could have tickled the young gun's fancy during the time off, but Lowe said none of his players got in touch.
"We are a pretty tight-knit unit, usually they are pretty open and honest about anything. But I don't think anyone's got any intentions of doing anything, just sitting back and relaxing.
"We got some injuries over the pre-season that are still six to eight weeks off being right and would have been season-ending injuries, so they've got a full season now to get over that and come back next year."
