About 11.20pm, bullets were fired into the front lounge room window of a unit on Lambert Street, not far from Faraday Street.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A woman was inside the house at the time and she was not injured.
Tasmania Police Northern Commander Brett Smith said police believed at least two shots were fired.
"The matter wasn't reported to us until some three hours later," he said on Saturday.
"Ordinarily there are children that do reside in the premises but they weren't there.
"We believe that it was a targeted incident, the general community need not fear that it was random."
Damage was caused to the windows and walls of the unit.
An investigation into the incident is underway and police urge anyone with information which could assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or Tasmania Police on 131 444.
