This was certainly the case at the Royal Oak Hotel on Brisbane Street, where Premier Peter Gutwein and Small Business Minister Sarah Courtney joined patrons for a cold-one.
Under stage two restrictions, hospitality venues such as pubs and restaurants can host up to 40 visitors.
Mr Gutwein said all Tasmanians had done their bit in getting to this point.
"As people step back in [to gatherings] we've made it perfectly clear what the numbers can be in terms of pubs and other public gatherings," he said.
"I'm certain the vast majority of people that have followed the rules up until now will continue to do so with the new step."
The Royal Oak brought forward renovations on its kitchen during the pandemic, which have been completed in time for its reopening.
In other news:
Builder Philip Ponting said it was a privilege to be able to continue working under the COVID-19 climate.
He said the kitchen had been in need of repair for some time, and the closure due to the pandemic gave builders a window to renovate it in a shorter period of time.
Royal Oak owner Wendy Robbins said she was excited to be back in business.
"It's fabulous ... all the artists are excited and all the regulars are pleased to be back," she said.
"It's a new world and we're going to make it work ... I think people are aware that it's not the old days ... There's going to be smaller numbers, but the quality's fantastic and we're just going to enjoy it."
Other stage two restrictions include:
- Household limit of 10 visitors at once.
- 50-person maximum at funerals.
- 80-visitor maximum at museums and art galleries, national institutions and historic sites.
- 40-visitor maximum at zoos.
- 40-visitor maximum at cinemas, concerts and theatres.
- 20-person maximum at once in a gym and at outdoor sporting activities.
- 40-person maximum for religious services and weddings.
- 20-person maximum for auctions and other real estate services.
- Restrictions on boating and national parks lifted.
"We'll [Tasmania] move to stage three restrictions in the next two to three weeks," Mr Gutwein said.
"Obviously if we've still got the same progress that we're seeing at the moment, I'd like to hope that we could lift stage three restrictions earlier."
