A symbolic stand to attention
IF we were in any of the armed forces we would stand to attention and salute officers.

Now that we have emergency staff in ambulances, doctors, hospitals, nurses, aged- care staff, clinics and other areas where staff and volunteers are working splendidly to ensure our protection, let us all symbolically stand to attention and give them a big salute.
Bloody marvellous.

Solar energy rebate disgrace
HAVING recently installed a 20-panel roof top solar system on our family home at Longford, we were pleased we were going to reduce our energy costs, and at the same time helping save the environment.
However, Aurora Energy has cut our rebate of 14 cents per kilowatt an hour to 9 cents per kW an hour.
I have contacted Aurora Energy for a reason why the rebate was reduced. They advised me they were directed by the state government to reduce the rebate.
I contacted Energy Minister Guy Barnett asking why the cut was necessary.
I was advised the system was overloaded with customers and the cost to customers being recompensed too high.
What a disgrace.
J Richards, Longford.
Fear of repercussions
IT only took just over a week and a multitude of protests to convince authorities to charge all four Minneapolis police with the murder of George Floyd.
There is every reason to fear the repercussions when the heavily, white-waited United States justice system releases these accused on a technicality.

Helping a hurt industry
GREAT idea, Caroline Scott of Invermay (The Examiner, June 2) for some of our premium accommodation experiences to be opened up to Tasmanians at discounted prices.
At Picnic Island a large number of our guests are international and interstate visitors who love our private island retreat on the Freycinet Peninsula.
The next few months is a great opportunity for us to offer some amazing deals for locals such as our 50 percent discount on a three-night stay.
Many other resorts are doing similar. Instead of booking through a third party booking service call direct to get the best rates and also help our industry back on its feet.

Cornerstones of society
I ENDORSE the letter from Sharon Webb (The Examiner, May 29), but without rebukes contained in her letter.
If there are any positives coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is that parents now have a far greater appreciation of the vital role of teachers in our society.
Teachers effectively manage the needs of about 25 children daily, maintain order, present programs and motivate their class to undertake their best efforts. All most laudatory.
Maybe now there will be less criticism of the teaching profession and sympathy for greater reward for these dedicated, cornerstone maintainers of our society.
