The Northern Midlands Council has received a 'significant amount' of dog complaints in the region and the mayor says it's likely due to the increased number of people staying home.

So far this year, mayor Mary Knowles said the council had received more than 50 complaints.
She said it was above last year's number of complaints and it was thought this was because more people were staying home due to COVID-19.
"We have received a significant amount of complaints relating to both unleashed and leashed dogs," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Complaints are being received municipal wide however we have received an increase in complaints relating to dog activity in council reserves and non-designated off lead dog areas.
"We have increased patrols in known problem areas and our animal control officers are issuing infringement notices."
Councillor Knowles said the first offence was a warning but the second was an infringement notice.
"We have also increased our presence on social media to educate and influence responsible dog ownership through the Northern Midlands," she said.
