The FHaT (Foxes, Hounds and Turtles) running group, comprising about 40 runners, set themselves a target of running/walking 300 kilometres a week.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The May Challenge was conceived to get the members of the group outside and exercising and at the same time raising much-needed funds for The Examiner Winter Relief Appeal," spokesperson Scott Curran said.
Members of the four teams ran in pairs individually and added their efforts to team totals.
Run/walk distances were recorded on the human exercise tracking app Strava.
"It quickly turned into a competitive event between the teams," Mr Curran said.
"The Go-Go Girls quickly established themselves as the team to beat, closely followed by The Champions, The Coronas and The Invincibles."
"The target of 300 kilometres per team per week was surpassed in the first few days and the competitive nature of all groups continued for rest of the month," Mr Curran said.
"It gave the group an opportunity to stay connected, virtually recording individual runs/walks through Strava during the COVID-19 restrictions.
"It has been great for our group to embrace this Challenge, but more importantly raise funds for such a worthy cause."
The winning team Go Go Girls ran 3722 km over 31 days -an average of 120 km a day.
The group ran/walked over 14,000 km for the month and raised $2000 for the Appeal.
