Tasmania Police is investigating the thefts of five government-owned vehicles overnight.

According Police, a member of the public reported an attempted vehicle theft on Frankland Street adjacent to the Launceston General Hospital about 1.30am on Monday.
It's believed that two men fled from the scene after being spooked by the vehicle's owner.
Shortly after, a lock box containing vehicle keys was broken into at the Launceston General Hospital.
This lead to the five vehicles, as well as about 30-35 car keys being stolen from the box.

Later in the morning, police arrested a 24-year-old Legana man and a teenager in two seperate evade incidents at Ravenswood and Launceston - police allege both were driving two of the stolen vehicles.
Two more vehicles were recovered this morning at Invermay, the fifth was found dumped at St Helens this morning after another police evade incident on the Tasman Highway.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was used to locate the vehicle.
The alleged thief of the fifth vehicle has yet to be apprehended.
A Mazda 121 was also stolen in the vicinity of the other thefts on Frankland Street at a similar time - Police said the vehicle was located a short distance away missing property and fuel.
