The 35-year-old has signed for the next two seasons after failing to come to terms with Victoria to continue on for a 16th year with his home state.
The shock signing comes after Tasmania missed out on another key target, D'Arcy Short, while James Faulkner may well have played his last first-class game of cricket.
The Launceston 30-year-old allrounder, who has been battling away for a number of years knee and calf injuries, was dumped from the state's 24-man contract list.
The major casualty of the delistings Cricket Tasmania had announced on Thursday extended to Simon Milenko and Gurinder Sandhu.
Coach Salliann Briggs also ordered a cleanout of last season's squad that included top-order batters Stefanie Daffara and Erin Fazackerley, and Riverside wicketkeeper Emma Manix-Geeves.

Siddle's inclusion will be seen to bolster Tasmania's bowling stocks further from his availability for the entire Sheffield Shield in case Riley Meredith and Jackson Bird earn a national call-up.
"It's a bit of a different feeling after finishing the year well and looking to start into the next year," Siddle said.
"I see it as exciting venture and it's something I am really looking forward to.
"There's a few guys down there I have played a lot of cricket with and then there's a lot of young guys that I am looking forward to meeting personally.
"Hopefully I'll play some good cricket alongside of them and that I can help them along their way."
