City of Hobart alderman Peter Sexton moved an amendment to a clause in the motion regarding the event, adding that an alternate version of Taste be planned instead that would adhere to relevant coronavirus restrictions.
The amendment also sought to allocate $300,000 to the 2020/2021 budget and seek further financial assistance from the State Government.
Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein asked the council defer deciding on the fate of Taste until further discussion took place.

Ald Sexton said he didn't think a deferral would be in anyone's interest, and that the amendment would confirm the council would host an event in one form or another.
As for fellow large-scale summer event Festivale, chairman David Dunn said planning is proceeding as normal and a decision on how the event will go ahead will be made by June 30.
"Clearly if we've got to restrict numbers ... then as a committee we'll look at how feasible it will be to do that," he said.
"We're keeping all options open and keeping our plan on track.
"We're hoping to bring Festivale 2021 to Tassie whether it's in the exact same format as what we've had this year, or it might be something slightly tweaked because of the restrictions - we'll make those restrictions closer to the time."
