In the eighth of a series of previews on the NTFA's women's competition, The Examiner looks at last season's premiers South Launceston, who aim to go back to back.
Coach: Adrian Dean
Co-captains: Hannah Viney and Kate Child
Ins: Danika Corcoran (Launceston), Courtney Bradford (Launceston), Maddie Campbell (North Hobart), Amy Farrell (returning from injury), Charlotte Mitchell (returning), Ruby Lanham, Libby McGrath, Ellie Woods (all South Launceston under-17s), Shannon Styles, Sam Morrison, Erika Lane.
Outs: Emily Perkins (North Launceston), Chelsea Ryan (University), Meghan Volker (injury), Nicole Dunn, Torie Holden.
Who's impressed: "We were really fortunate that we've got a strong buy-in from all the girls and they are really keen to learn, work hard and get better and going along with that, have a heap of fun," Dean said.
"Some standouts were Emma Attard and Lisa Patterson who worked really hard on their games from last year to improve."
Coach says: "We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing in finals and being successful last year and our aim this year was certainly to compete hard and improve because we recognise that the competition is improving all the time.
"For us to be in a position to be able to play in finals again, we are going to have to work really hard and the girls were determined to do that.
"We certainly weren't taking anything for granted that we were going to be in a position to play finals, people had the goal of their individual improvement and in our line groups, we were looking at what we could do as a group to improve.
OTHER PREVIEWS
"It's very important that we do have some strong role models at our footy club and we are fortunate that with Kate Child with her experience having captained Launceston to a TSL premiership - she's certainly an invaluable support to me.
"We've also got Hannah Viney, wife of Aaron Viney, who's obviously been held in high esteem by everybody else and our two vice-captains in Kate Greaves and Emma Attard, who are both hard working and really great communicators as well and the other girls follow the lead of those four people.
"Another thing that's been a really big positive for us is that we've got some under-17 girls who are coming through and would have been playing for us.
"It's fantastic from a football club point of view that now with the partnership for girls, we've got an under-11, under-14 and under-17 girls team and our senior women's team is starting to bear the fruit of that."
