Armidale Stud at Carrick has announced that the son of Encosta de Lago will join the Aquis Farm stallion roster at Seymour this season.
Needs Further has earned national acclaim as the sire of group 1 Australian Guineas and inaugural All-Star Mile winner Mystic Journey.
In his first three crops, Needs Further has also sired group 3 Vamos Stakes winner Deroche, Flemington listed winner Bold Star and 1000 Guineas winner Mystical Pursuit.
Armidale manager David Whishaw said the move would have a "huge upside" for the stallion.
"He has been attracting an increasing number of mares from interstate and has achieved outstanding results from limited books of mares," Whishaw said.
"The opportunity for him to be based in Victoria will give him the chance to take his stud career to the next level."
Aquis Farm CEO Tony Williams said Needs Further possessed the versatility that was "everything in a successful sire.
"He has sired feature two-year-old winners, sprinter-milers and classic three-year-olds at the highest level and I'm sure this trend will continue with support from Victorian breeders who appreciate his value," Williams said.
Needs Further was Tasmania's leading sire and juvenile sire last season and his progeny made a cleansweep of the horse of the year awards. He will stand for $12,500 plus GST.
