In a first for Launceston, the Women's Health Clinic will operate in a co-located capacity with the Launceston Health Hub on Wellington Street.

Set to open in June, the new clinic will offer a range of services across a woman's lifetime, including cervical screening, fertility, pre-pregnancy health checks, menopause management and continence care.

With the goal of putting women at the centre of care, clinical director Dr Sue Mallett said the service would work closely with other health professionals.

"It can be difficult for women in the community to be able to access women's health services," she said.

"The doctors working in the clinic are GPs with an interest in working in women's health. It just seemed like a wonderful opportunity for like-minded doctors and allied health professionals to work together, to be able to provide a service that sometimes women struggle to access."

Women's health encompasses anything to do with the female reproductive system and can mean different things for women of different ages.

The Launceston Women's Health Clinic will operate its services independent of the Launceston Medical Centre, with GPs who have undergone extra training in women's health.

Dr Mallett said it was vital to ensure women felt safe and supported in their needs.

"If you take something like cervical cancer, most cases happen in women who are not presenting for their regular screening tests," she said.

"Often women are busy looking after everybody else and their needs are lower down the list."
