Thanks to organisers and Giant Steps staff, however, parts of the annual agricultural show were recreated for the students.

Giant Steps is a school that caters specifically towards children on the autistic spectrum; teacher Danielle Whatley said it was an annual routine for the students to be attending Agfest.

"We've got a couple of kids who are obsessed with Agfest and they were really crushed when I told them Agfest was cancelled," she said.

"They don't quite understand the COVID situation but they had a good time doing Agfest at Giant Steps instead."

Some of the student's favourite Agfest activities were set up at the school, and members of Rural Youth Tasmania paid a visit with t-shirts and drink bottles from stakeholders.

Rural Youth Tasmania Agfest chairman Ethan Williams said kids have always visited Agfest to learn and it was great to be able to give the students at Giant Steps the chance to still do that.
