On the same day AFL clubs returned to training, the 31-year-old Hobart-born forward competed in the Supercars' Eseries celebrity race around Bathurst's Mount Panorama, soaking in the country's most famous track.

Competing against racing royalty Craig Lowndes and Greg Murphy as well as the likes of cricketer Peter Siddle, athlete John Steffensen and rugby star Nathan Hindmarsh in the field of 24, Riewoldt qualified in 18th before finishing the nine-lap races in 21st and 11th.

The 263-game superstar had an early shunt with the wall on the top of the mountain during lap one, putting him towards the back of the pack and making sure he started the second race - a reverse-grid contest - right up the front.

The shift saw Riewoldt improve on his race-one output but was unable to stop Australian rally driver Scott Pedder, who led from the front to win the second race after Steffenson took out the first.

Riewoldt, who hosts the Balls and Bumpers podcast alongside close mate and reigning Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin, received a video of encouragement from the Kiwi before hitting the start line.

"You're going to suck tonight but all the best man," McLaughlin said in a video posted on the Supercars' Facebook page.

McLaughlin wasn't the only Supercars influence Riewoldt had in his corner with development driver Thomas Randle setting the multiple-time Coleman Medallist up with a simulator.

The Tiger spent a four-hour session under the tutelage of Randall, who owns Dream Simulation alongside his father Dean.

"I love everything about the sport and I admire the drivers and the crews so much and to have a few hours on the Dream Simulator with Thomas was an absolute thrill," Riewoldt told Speedcafe earlier this month.

"I'm not lying, I deadset struggled to sleep after the session on the sim.

"All I was thinking about was braking spots and gear changes, it was so much fun."
