A Gagebrook man who pushed a man so hard that he careered down a flight of stairs without his feet touching the stairs was sentenced in the Supreme Court in Launceston via video link to an eight months home detention.

Joshua Dion Hill, 26, pleaded guilty to Criminal Code assault and common assault.
He was in a Hobart night club when he argued with a 20-year-old man and they agreed to go outside to "sort it out".

However, at the top of a flight of stairs he pushed the younger man in the chest.
"The force of the push propelled him down the stairs to the ground at the foot of the stairs without his feet touching the ground and without anything breaking his fall,'' Justice Robert Pearce said.
"On striking the ground he was immediately rendered unconscious [for] about five minutes."
Justice Pearce said Hill's criminal history, comprising four prior convictions for assault, was of some concern.
"This is yet another example of alcohol-fuelled violent behaviour by a young man late at night in a licensed establishment," he said.
He said CCTV footage was confronting to watch.
"The potentially tragic consequences of what you did are obvious to any reasonable person."
Hill is required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and be present at his Gagebrook address unless for an urgent medical appointment, there is serious risk of death or injury or with the approval of a probation officer.
