One such project is Lake Palawa - A Fresh Water Idea, which aims to investigate ways of improving the health of the river alongside future growth and infrastructure in the city.
In other news:
Project member and architect Lez Penzes said proposed initiatives such as the Tamar Bridge, which could connect Riverside and Newnham, would allow for a weir to be constructed.
"[A] weir would facilitate the city with a better waterfront by keeping fresh water at a high level," he said.
"The infrastructure required for building a bridge there would be quite substantial and it could actually marry in with a weir there on the super structure."

Mr Penzes said the health of the river would then also need to be addressed to make the area near the bridge more community friendly.
He said it may be possible for plasma-based technology to purify wastewater.
"I thought maybe this could be a hypothetical direction where we could do that and therefore not put any of our waste from treatment plants into the lake," he said.
"There's lots of examples around the world we could tap into and maybe that's part of the research as well."
