Members of the public tripping and falling over the Tasmanian tiger statues in the Brisbane Street Mall has triggered a new risk assessment of the statues.

The Launceston City Council is reviewing the level of risk the bronzed statues pose to foot traffic after a number of people have fallen or tripped over them.
A public question during the council's Thursday meeting suggested they be lifted to a higher level and due to the reduced foot traffic in the mall during the pandemic it was an ideal time to do so.

Mayor Albert van Zetten said any raising of the Thylacines in the mall would create a fall issue, which would require the installation of soft fall to keep up with regulations.
"There was a risk assessment undertaken prior to the installation of the Thylacines which indicated that the installation was acceptable," he said.
"However there have been a number of trips and falls, many due to inattention, which has resulted in the council now reviewing the level of risk posed by the Thylacines.
"The outcomes of this assessment will be communicated to the public once it has been completed."
