One of the competition's foundation clubs, the Hawks were placed into voluntary administration a fortnight ago.
The NBL is involved in multiple discussions regarding the team's new ownership, including one with a consortium fronted by former Hawks star LaMelo Ball.
Speaking to Australian Community Media this week, NBL commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said the club's business model "needed some rethinking" and indicated that a willingness to relocate up to four home games a season would be factored into the league's final decision.

However, Tasmania is not being considered as a potential destination for the 2001 champions.
"There has been no consideration given to the Hawks playing games in Tasmania," an NBL spokesman said on Thursday.
Tasmania was confirmed as the NBL's 10th team in Feburary, with state government sponsorship helping to end the Apple Isle's 25-year absence from the national competition.
The state's slated 2021-22 entry hinges on a government-funded upgrade of the Derwent Entertainment Centre, which was due to begin this year but could be set back by the coronavirus outbreak.
The Tasmanian side is also expected to play some home games in the state's North.
