The Stan Siejka Launceston Cycling Classic committee made the decision based on the ongoing medical and financial uncertainty surrounding Covid-19.
Acting chairman Andrew Youl was hopeful of working towards an improved event in 2021.
"These are unprecedented times which will eventually pass," he said. "To all our sponsors, competitors, volunteers and patrons who support this event annually, we thank you and wish you well during these trying times."
The classic has been running since 2002 offering substantial prize money and attracting a who's who of Australian cycling with champions including Robbie McEwen, Matt Goss, Will Clarke, Caleb Ewan, Steele von Hoff and Cam Ivory.
Usually held in December, the cycling festival traditionally included races for elite women, masters and juniors.
