Some 50 projects are vying for the $100,000 funding and support to assist in realising their various initiatives for the region.
Challenge spokesperson Owen Tilbury said all entries were of a high standard, and ranged from small to very large in scale.
"We are convinced that this kind of community participation can help jump-start the whole region once this damn pestilence [coronavirus] is behind us," he said.
Initiatives range from turning a shipping container into a stage for Harvest Market, hosting an innovation expo at Macquarie House and even a national remote-controlled boat competition.
"What we are doing is to give money to ordinary citizens, organisations and groups of people with great ideas so they can help turn Launnie into the great regional city it deserves to be," Mr Tilbury said.
