Rose Kerrison, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a police officer on February 18, 2020.
She had a $450 fine added to $7500 worth of outstanding fines.
The court heard that Kerrison was so drunk that she was staggering and falling over in Charles Street about 9.15pm.
Police intended to take her into care for her own protection because of her level of intoxication.
An officer guided her towards a police vehicle and when she was seated in the rear seat she spat on the left side of an officer's face.
Magistrate Simon Brown said it was a disgusting thing to do.
"An officer was trying to get you into a safe situation and he was greeted by this," Mr Brown said.
"As I said it was a disgusting thing to do because people are worried that they might get a communicable disease.
"Your record is a really poor one and in different circumstances I would order you to do Community Service Orders."
