An online festival will take place instead of National Trust Tasmania's traditional 2020 Heritage Festival, which had to be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Special projects coordinator Rachel McEvoy said the decision was made with the welfare of community members, staff, volunteers and visitors at the top of mind.

"As an ongoing initiative, the This Place Matters program will be going ahead," Ms McEvoy advised.
"An online festival launching This Place Matters will take place instead of the Heritage Festival in its traditional format."

Ms McEvoy said information about how register for This Place Matters would be sent out to interested people and placed on a This Place Matters website.
"The This Place Matters website, along with all registered places, will be actively promoted throughout the online launch festival," she said.
"Interactive activities in the form of online competitions, forums, comments and feedback will be engaged through the website and social media platforms."
National Trust Tasmania thanked the community for its understanding of the need to make these decisions, Mc McEvoy said.
