Hosted in Launceston in February, the country's hallmark event has been ticked off for this year and despite several mainland players having Olympic preparations hampered, Tasmania had remained largely unscathed until last week.

Tournaments in both Launceston and Hobart were postponed with one of the state's biggest drawcards, the Tasmanian Team Championships, also rescheduled following recommendations from Badminton Australia.

"Given the way things were trending, we thought it would be best to avoid the May period and push things back and wait and see where we sit come mid-May," Badminton Tasmania president Brent Munday said.

"Hopefully that allows things to play itself out and we have a better idea of what we can and can't do. We've postponed the start of the season with the hope that we will get a start at some point and it just might be, like other sports, a bit different to what it has before."

Competing in his 20^th senior national championships in February's event, the 39-year-old school teacher described the decisions faced as "small fry" compared to others.

"We just live in the shadows of everything else that's being done and hopefully we take the right steps to protect the people in our community.

"We cross our fingers and hope it goes as quickly as it came by the way it feels."

Adopting a similar attitude to the AFL, Munday said the ideal scenario would be a full season running until October with everything going to plan but using the benefits of the indoor sport, admits play could continue to run into December.

"It's not ideal but the option is there for us to do that. We aren't rushing into major decisions that we might be hampered to come decision time."
