Roberts gold
Riverside's Isaac Roberts has been called up to represent Tasmania in the Australian boys amateur championship at Gold Creek Country Club in the ACT from April 15 to 17.
The tournament will be played over 72 holes, with the top 60 included those on ties playing in the final two rounds.
Roberts has worked hard on his game this year and Riverside is very proud that he will be representing Tasmania.
The first Australian Boys' Amateur Championship was played in 1982 over 54-holes stroke play for players under 21 years of age (now under-18). Past winners include Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Adam Scott, Jason Day, Cameron Smith and Ryan Ruffels.
Unfortunately for Roberts and all concerned, at present the event has been postponed.
Foot kicking
Footgolf has been a huge success at Riverside Golf Club since it started in October 2019.
The game has been well received by members and has brought many new people onto the course, especially in the younger age group.
The principle is the same as golf, least amount of kicks of a soccer ball into a 52cm hole positioned beside the fairway.
There are nine holes and a game should only take between 45-60 minutes.
It's played on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1-5pm. Adults: $12, under-16s: $8.
Covid-19
The Northern Tasmanian Veterans Golf Association advises that upcoming tournaments scheduled for Poatina, St Helens, Ulverstone and the Goodwill tournament at Riverside on April 23 have all been cancelled.
Covid-19 has seen the postponement of many sporting events worldwide and golf in Australia and Tasmania has not been exempt from this.
Northern Golf's women's and men's pennant, along with MyGolf Junior League and girls-only clinics have been postponed along with the annual Thyne Trophy for men and North versus South for women.
The majority of Northern clubs are still playing, however, some restrictions are in place.
It is advisable to consult your club to be aware of any changes. All the updated information, including social distancing requirements can be found at www.golf.org.au/covid-19.
